Milos Airport (MLO): Arrivals, Transfers and What to Expect

Milos Island National Airport (IATA code MLO) is a single small terminal roughly five kilometres south-east of Adamas. It handles domestic flights only, mostly from Athens, on aircraft small enough that the whole arrivals process takes about ten minutes from touchdown to standing outside with your bag.

Which airlines fly to Milos?

Milos is served by domestic Greek carriers flying from Athens, principally Olympic Air operating for Aegean, using turboprop aircraft. There are no direct international flights into MLO. Almost everyone arriving by air connects through Athens.

Because the aircraft are small, seats sell out well ahead for July and August, and a cancelled flight cannot simply be rebooked onto the next one. Many visitors treat the ferry from Piraeus as the backup rather than the second choice.

How far is Milos Airport from Adamas?

About five kilometres, which is roughly a ten minute drive. Adamas is the port and the island’s main town, so this is the journey most arriving passengers make.

Are there taxis at Milos Airport?

A small number of taxis meet each arriving flight, and they are taken within minutes. Milos has around a dozen licensed taxis for the whole island, so in July and August you should assume there will not be one free when you land.

There is no ride-hailing on the island. Uber and Bolt do not operate on Milos. Your realistic options are a pre-booked private transfer, a pre-arranged hire car collection, or the risk of waiting for a taxi to come back from a drop-off.

What are the facilities at Milos Airport?

Minimal, and that is worth planning around. The terminal has a small café, basic seating and toilets. There is no left luggage, no lounge, and very limited shopping. It is a single-room airport in the best sense: nothing to navigate, but nothing to do either.

The practical consequence is on departure. Arriving three hours early, as you might at a large airport, means three hours in a small room. An hour is generally plenty.

How early should I arrive for a flight from Milos?

About an hour before departure is sufficient, and a little more in August. Check-in and security for a turboprop flight from a single-gate terminal are quick.

The thing to build a buffer for is not the airport, it is getting to it. If you are staying in Pollonia or on the south coast, the drive is twenty-five to thirty minutes, and in August the roads through Adamas are slow. We will suggest a pickup time when you book and confirm it the day before.

Where exactly do you meet a driver at Milos Airport?

Inside the arrivals area, which is a single room. Your driver stands with a sign showing your name, and because everyone on your flight walks past the same point, you cannot miss each other.

This is one of the genuine advantages of a very small airport. There are no terminals to confuse, no meeting-point letters, no long walk to a pickup zone. Travelling with children, or a lot of luggage

Tell us before you arrive. Child and booster seats are free but have to be in the vehicle before it leaves for the airport, so we need the children’s ages at the time of booking rather than on the day.

Luggage is the other thing worth flagging early. A sedan takes two large cases comfortably; four adults with four cases want a minivan. Folded pushchairs, golf bags, diving gear and surfboards all fit, but only in the right vehicle. Flying versus taking the ferry to Milos

Flying takes about forty-five minutes from Athens; the ferry takes between three and seven hours depending on the vessel. Flights cost more and sell out earlier; ferries carry vehicles, run more frequently in summer, and are more prone to weather cancellation.
