Milos has more beaches than any other island in the Cyclades, and the best of them are on the south coast, at the end of roads that a small hire car should not really attempt. This private tour takes you along that coast at your own pace, with a driver who knows which track is passable and where the shade is.
Where we go
The route is yours to shape, but the classic run covers four:
- Firiplaka — a long stretch of sand beneath striped volcanic cliffs, the most photographed beach on the south coast, with easy access and usually calm water.
- Tsigrado — small, spectacular and reached by a rope-and-ladder descent through a gap in the rock. Not for everyone, and entirely optional. Those who would rather not climb can stay at Firiplaka next door.
- Paleochori — a broad beach where geothermal heat warms the sand and the shallows, with tavernas that cook in the volcanic ground.
- Provatas — sheltered, shallow and sandy, the gentlest of the four and the easiest with young children.
Agia Kyriaki, Gerakas and Achivadolimni can be swapped in if you would rather, and we are happy to build the day around what you want.
How the day works
We collect you from your accommodation and you decide how long to spend at each stop. Some people want an hour at four beaches; others want most of the day at one, with a long lunch. There is no fixed schedule and nobody waiting on a bus. Your driver stays with the vehicle, so bags and towels stay in the car between stops.
Why with a driver
The approach roads to several of these beaches are unsurfaced, steep in places, and rough on a small rental car. Hire agreements on Milos routinely exclude damage on unsurfaced roads, which is exactly where these beaches are. Beyond that, parking at Firiplaka and Paleochori is genuinely difficult from mid-morning onwards in high season.
What to bring
- Water, more than you think, and sun protection
- Shoes you can walk down a rough path in, especially for Tsigrado
- A hat and a light cover-up, since shade is scarce at Firiplaka
- Cash for the beach tavernas at Paleochori
Booking
The tour is private, for your group only. Tell us how many of you there are, roughly how long you want to be out, and whether anyone would rather skip the ladder at Tsigrado, and we will quote a fixed price for the day.
If you would rather see the villages and the north coast, our Milos Highlights Tour covers Sarakiniko, Mandrakia, Fyropotamos, Plaka, the Ancient Theatre and Klima instead.
